Metallica Planning Massive Shows in 2011

If you are an aspiring Public Relations person, Blogs N' Roses will help you out. If you are a young upstart band compare yourself to the best. "We sound like Elvis meets The Beatles." If you have been around a bit, compare your live show to someone who puts on a great show. "We have the same intensity as Motorhead."

The tricky part comes around when you have been around for 30 years. Who do you compare yourself to? If you are Greed $immons, you take on U2 and The Rolling Stones and call them out on stadium shows. (link here).

If you are Metallica, you compare your new tour to Pink Floyd's The Wall tour. According to Classic Rock Magazine, Metallica's 2011 tour will rival the legendary Wall tour. They will play ten cities worldwide and have a massive stage show.

Pink Floyd's The Wall tour had like four arena stops, and they played The Wall in its entirety. A giant wall was erected on the stage and then torn down at the end. It was a huge tour, that only four arenas in the United States could hold.

Metallica manager Peter Mensch said, “Let’s just say that next year you will see a Metallica tour that will blow your mind. They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be Metallica’s equivalent of The Wall.”

Let's really break this down. The Wall tour played four cities, lost a lot of money, had lots of infighting with the band, and Bob Geldof screwed up the concert movie. Do you really want to compare your tour attempt to that?

Metallica doesn't really have concept albums that would lend themselves to a giant stage show. So what will it be?

Lars: I want to create a massive stage show that rivals Pink Floyd's The Wall.

James: What will we do? How are we going to change our current stuff?

Kirk: How about we have my degenerate neighbor rape dogs. (link)

Lars: Kirk, you are always talking about raping dogs. I am talking BIG. Maybe we play Master of Puppets all the way through.

James: We did that in 2006. What about more pyro?

Lars: Yes, we will have more pyro! But I want the flames to be different colors - green, blue, red, lots of red!

Rob: <indistinct grunts>

Lars: Great idea Rob, we will have the big Lady Justice in the background like our ...And Justice tour.

I don't see how they can create a stage show that rivals The Wall, but I am eager to find out. As for the ten cities, here are my guesses:

Giants stadium - NY

Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum - LA

Texas Memorial Stadium - TX

Wembley - London

Estadio do Maracana  - Brazil

Estadio Azteca - Mexico

I think it would have to be a stadium show that seats a lot of people so Metallica can attempt to break even. Each of those places I picked above seats around 90k for concerts, if not more.

well, they've completely turned into everything they used to hate. the always-hungry money-making machinery, the "back to the roots" cash-grab (while james would rather be writing country tunes), and now the bloated arena excess that will just add more to the ticket prices. eat shit, metallica.
