Stones Not Touring in 2010

Despite rumors, or is it rumours, The Rolling Stones are not touring in 2010...for now. In a statement released to NME.com, the Stones had this to say:

"Following recent UK media speculation, The Rolling Stones would like to make it clear there are no plans at the moment for the band to tour in 2010."

I underlined/bolded the important part. There are a lot of speculations that Keith and Mick met without Ron Wood and were planning a tour sans playboy Wood. Ron brings a certain character to the Stones live show and I am fairly certain he would be difficult to replace.

Could the Stones find a competent guitarist willing to fill in? Sure they are The Stones. But could he bring the kind of charisma and flair Wood does? Probably not.

Barring any of the Stones dying, there will be at least one more tour. But The Stones don't do anything half assed. With U2 doing a MASSIVE stadium tour across Europe with one of the largest stages ever erected, it is likely the Stones will try to match this.

Though I think what they did on the 40 Licks tour would be cooler. A few cities, a stadium/arena/theater show and pull out some rareites not heard live. Their A Bigger Bang tour was great, but they just killed on the 40 Licks tour.
