U2 Movie to Be Filmed in Northern Ireland

There is a new U2 movie entitled Killing Bono that will be filmed entirely in Northern Ireland, presumably because they are used to bombs. If you are wondering what the plot might be, let The Belfast Telegraph explain:

Killing Bono is based on Neil McCormick’s autobiography ‘I Was Bono’s Doppelganger’. Barnes play Neil McCormick while Sheehan plays his hapless brother Ivan. Together they set up a band in Dublin in the late 1970s. Sadly for them, however, so do their classmates and rivals — and they go on to become U2.

The movie begins shooting in Belfast on January 11. The script is written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, who worked on The Commitments, while Nick Hamm will direct

This movie sounds like shit...or in Irish...shite. It sounds like a niche movie. One that only U2 fans might find funny as the Doppelganger's play the bar across the street from the Point Depot, or something like that. (Yes, I have been to the Point Depot and there is no bar across the street since it is near the Dublin Docks).

No shite. This movie (if it’s anything like the book) will appeal to more than U2 fans. It's actually a story about breaking into the music business with Neil McCormick (aka Bono's Doppelganger) giving witty and wry insights from his beginnings as an art director at Hot Press, "keeping Ireland safe for rock n roll" and throughout his journey wrestling with industry insiders, outsiders and his own personal demons. It's less about U2 than it is about being the one guy who consistently pulls the short stick at every opportunity, and what it was/is like for him to be friends (since 11th grade!) with a fellow band frontman whose meteoric rise to stardom couldn't be any more juxtaposed to his personal experience of barreling down the tubes at breakneck speed.

Notice how they mention who's playing Neil and his brother but not Bono or the Edge or Ali? U2 might not even appear in the movie at all ~
