Joe Satriani Talks About Coldplay Grammy Win

Joe Satriani isn't some people's cup of tea, but I find him to be an amazing guitarist and an insightful human being. He recently conducted an interview with  Ultimate-Guitar.com.

On where his copyright case against Coldplay is currently at:

"Our respective lawyers are talking to one other, and trading papers. There's much protocol which needs to be followed. These types of cases tend to drag on, and with very little interesting news for months and months (laughs). None of us are meant to discuss any of the really interesting aspects, so all I can say is that the case is still ongoing."

On Coldplay winning a Grammy for "Viva la Vida":

"I'm happy for the group, and in a very weird way, I was happy to hear my melody being celebrated. However, I was slightly confused that NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, Inc.), the organization which handles the Grammy Awards, would even consider nominating a track which they knew was heavily contested. These are the people who voted for Milli Vanilli, though it isn't really their job, I suppose."

That is an absolutely dead on assessment of the NARAS. They have no idea what is good music and one reason why we here at Blogs N' Roses take little stock in a Grammy Award. It was once an esteemed honor to get a Grammy Award, but over the years the NARAS has murdered and maimed the tradition and reputation of the award. When you have people who lipsync their songs winning your award, you have zero credibility. When you have Jethro Tull win Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance Vocal or Instrument over Metallica, you utterly clueless.

I used to think the Grammy Awards were quite an honor, but then again, I also used to think MTV was cool, thought women had cooties, and Noah built an ark. The point is, you grow up and through education and understanding you learn MTV is a pile of garbage, Noah was a story not a real life narrative, women still do have cooties, it's just called crabs to grown-ups, and the Grammy Awards are meaningless.
