Metallica still crushes the competition.....tops charts again

Whether you love them or hate them, Metallica is back and they are a force to be reckoned with.  Death Magnetic has taken the top spot on the charts, beating out some guy named Ne-Yo.  The new album has been both critically praised for its ...And Justice for All song structures, although I find a lot of the tracks to be relatively original in the Metallica universe.  They seem to be taking hints from some of their contemporaries at this point.

For the second straight week, Metallica's Death Magnetic claimed the top spot on the sales chart by selling another 337,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. This means the band is well on their way to platinum status in just two weeks, as their total is now 827,000 sold. What's more, Metallica held off both Ne-Yo and Nelly from taking #1. Ne-Yo bowed at #2 with Year of the Gentleman, selling 250,000, and Nelly came in at #3 with Brass Knuckles, shifting 84,000. Kid Rock's unstoppable Rock N Roll Jesus held strong at #4 after almost a year on the chart, and former Blowfish Darius Rucker bowed at #5 with his solo Country album, Learn To Live, moving 60,400 units.

Outside the top five, other debuts came from DJ Khaled at #7 with We Global, selling 49,000. Buckcherry’s Black Butterfly came in at #8 with 46,700, giving the band its first Top 10 album and its best sales week ever. Massachusetts Metal band All That Remains landed an impressive debut at #16 with Overcome, moving almost 29,000 units. Crooner Raphael Saddiq’s first album in four years, The Way I See It, started at #19 with 23,400, and the new live set from Avenged Sevenfold bowed at #24 with 19,700.

Additionally, Eli Young Band's Jet Black & Jealous debuted at #33, Colby O'Donis bowed at #41 with Colby O and Welsh singer Jem landed at #43 with Down To Earth. Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham bowed at #48 with Gift Of Screws, and American Idol contestant Kristy Lee Cook took #49 with Why Wait.
