Exclusive Interview with The Dalai Lama in Philadelphia

PhotobucketHis Holiness, The Dalai Lama is not just an important dignitary in the world of spiritualism but also a relevant figure in Rock n' Roll music. The Lama sits at the center of the long brewing storm between Tibet, Axl Rose and the People's Republic of China.

From his Indian exile, the Lama battles the Chinese oppression of Tibet and the smart-ass Commies controlling the PRC. If the Lama triumphs then the PRC will be destroyed by a massive wave of peace-loving and tolerant Tibetan Buddhism. Axl Rose can not let this happen. If China became a democratic republic then he would be forced to either release Chinese Democracy or shelve the album for another decade to devise another ironically relevant title. It's a cage and ladders match with the title belt suspended at the center of the ring. The Lama and the PRC are very powerful forces, but my money is on Axl Rose. That bastard wouldn't release Chinese Democracy if the Virgin Mary appeared at a GnR show and sang "Night Train."

Blogs N' Roses were granted and a brief interview with His Holiness during his visit to The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on July 16th. Fear not, we grilled the Lama on the most vital issue plaguing human civilization.

BNR: Lama, looking good. I was admiring that tunic, was it purchased locally?

TDL: No, this was made by a group of Tibetan monks living in India. It's 100% cotton and breathes well.

BNR: Nice! Now, what are you thoughts on Guns N' Roses; more specifically Axl's treatment of former band mates and his over-protection of Chinese Democracy?

TDL:
With a selfish attitude, oneself is important, and others are not so important. According to Shantideva's advice, a technique to help in turning this attitude around is to imagine- in front of yourself as an unbiased observer- your own selfish self on one side and a limited number of other beings on the other side- ten, fifty, or a hundred.  On one side is your proud, selfish self, and on the other side is a group of poor, needy people.  You are, in effect, in the middle- as an unbiased, third person.  Now, judge.  Is this one, single, selfish person more important?  Or is the group of people more important?  Think.  Will you join this side or that side?  Naturally, if you are a real human being, your heart will go with the group because the number is greater and they are more needy.  The other one is just a single person, proud and stupid.  Your feeling naturally goes with the group.  By thinking in this way, selfishness gradually decreases,
and respect of others grows.

BNR: True...true. At least he should give Izzy Stradlin an advance copy. Thanks for your time, Lama. Keep on truckin'!

That concluded this all too brief conversation. Be sure to check out the Lama on his tour of North America this summer and look for his review of Metallica's Death Magnetic on his website.
