Bn'R Anti-Nazi Week: Joey Ramone and Bob Dylan
Joey RamoneHow we know him: Joey Ramone was the vocalist and founding member of the insanely successful and influential punk rock band The Ramones. He was also the primary songwriter and remained the only original member of the band alongside Johnny Ramone. Johnny and Joey.....what a pair.
How Jewish is he?: Well, let's see. His full name is Jeffry Ross Hyman, which of course sounds like a villain from the Godfather Trilogy. Both of his parents were Jewish. He also resembles a more talented version of Howard Stern.
Great Jewish moments in his career: What could be more of a source of pride for a Jewish American hero than to be honored in the heart of Jewdom in America, New York City. (From Wikipedia) On November 30, 2003, a block of East 2nd Street in New York City was officially renamed Joey Ramone Place. It is the block where Hyman once lived with bandmate Dee Dee Ramone, and is near CBGB, where the Ramones got their start. Hyman's birthday is celebrated annually by rock'n'roll nightclubs, hosted in New York City by his mother and brother. Joey was buried in Hillside Cemetery in Lyndhurst, NJ.
Bob Dylan

How we know him: Bob is best known for his long solo career and his contributions to acts such as Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Al Kooper, The Band, Rolling Thunder Revue, Mark Knopfler, Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Van Morrison, and the Grateful Dead.
How Jewish is he?: His full name is Robert Allen Zimmerman (his Jewish name is Shabtai Zisel ben Avraham v'Rachel Riva). His Blogs N' Roses name is Shabtai Zisel ben Avraham v'Rachel Riva Von Wettner.
Great Jewish moments in his career: Dylan constantly challenged the ideals and social norms of the common musician in the sixties all the way through and beyond 2000. His influence will be long remembered by Jews and Gentiles alike.
