Trent Reznor is mad at the Music Industry

He focused most of his aggression towards the Australian music industry.
Recently, Reznor was outraged when he found out that his new album, "Year Zero" was being sold in Australia for $34.99 in Australian Dollars. This is the equivilant of $29.10 is U.S. Dollars. Reznor was quoted as saying:
"Shame on you, UMG... No wonder people steal music."
Furthermore, Reznor had this to say:
"It's a very odd time to be a musician on a major label, because there's so much resentment towards the record industry that it's hard to position yourself in a place with the fans where you don't look like a greedy asshole." He added that he understands the fan's position though, saying, "I steal music too, I'm not gonna say I don't. But it's tough not to resent people for doing it when you're the guy making the music, that would like to reap a benefit from that."
Normally I try not to copy and paste too much of an article, but paraphrasing Reznor does not do him justice. He has the right idea. This is what he had to say about what his plans were for distributing music when his contract with his label is up in one year:
"He noted that he has one album left on his contract with Interscope, rumored to be a sequel to Year Zero, and after its release, "then I will never be seen in a situation like this again. If I could do what I want right now, I would put out my next album, you could download it from my site at as high a bit-rate as you want, pay $4 through PayPal. Come see the show and buy a T-shirt if you like it. I would put out a nicely packaged merchandise piece, if you want to own a physical thing. And it would come out the day that it's done in the studio, not this "Let's wait three months" bulls—-."
If more artists had the progressive ideas of Reznor from a business standpoint, maybe the music industry wouldn't be floating like a guppy. Time to go pack for Vegas. Peace bitches!
